Dr. Geoffrey Haydon

Dr. Geoffrey Haydon is an internationally acclaimed pianist, educator, and clinician whose distinguished career spans classical and jazz performance, scholarship, and pedagogy. He has received critical acclaim for his solo, chamber, and concerto performances throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Central America, and South America. His performance credits include appearances with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and collaborations with renowned artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Moody Blues, Joan Rivers and Il Divo.
An active performer in both classical and jazz settings, Dr. Haydon is a member of the Haydon/Parker Duo, the Joe Gransden Big Band, and the Georgia State University Faculty Jazztet. He has shared the stage with many of the jazz world’s most respected artists, including Eddie Daniels, Randy Brecker, Joe Henderson, Gordon Goodwin, Eddie Gomez, Bobby McFerrin, Bob Mintzer, Bill Watrous, Jerry Weldon, Ndugu Chancler, Conrad Herwig, and Hal Crook. His extensive performance experience also includes Broadway productions such as The Phantom of the Opera, The King and I, The Producers, Hairspray, Sister Act, Sophisticated Ladies, and Grease.
Dr. Haydon’s recordings include Geoffrey Haydon Plays, Gershwin Plus – Piano Solos and Novelty Arrangements, a solo piano collection featuring the music of George Gershwin; Cabin Fever with the McLean-Haydon Jazz Quartet; and My Foolish Heart and Reunion with the Haydon/Parker Duo. These recordings are available through ACA Digital.
A highly sought-after clinician and adjudicator, Dr. Haydon has presented workshops and masterclasses internationally. He has authored and co-authored numerous educational publications, including Jazz History Overview (Kendall Hunt Publishing), Beginning Jazz (Lee Roberts Publications), and Creative Piano Teaching, a widely used piano pedagogy text. His published arrangements and educational materials appear through Alfred Music, Lee Roberts Publications, and Hal Leonard. His articles have been featured in Clavier Companion, and his reviews have appeared in American Music Teacher.
Recognized for his expertise in music technology, Dr. Haydon has established a reputation for innovation in performance, composition, arranging, and pedagogy. He serves as an artist-clinician for Roland US and regularly presents workshops on the integration of technology in music education and performance. Dr. Haydon is also a professional piano technician who can tune, regulate and voice pianos. In addition, Dr. Haydon tours major European cities as a professor in the Georgia Tech Oxford Study Abroad Program
Currently, Dr. Haydon coordinates the piano faculty at Georgia State University, where he teaches applied piano, piano literature, jazz history, and jazz theory. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Richmond and studied at the Aspen Music Festival for three summers. He received both his Master and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Nancy Garrett and Gregory Allen.
